Synopsis of Helpless

The story opens as Buffy and Angel are training. She knocks him down, jumps
on him and places a stake to his chest and asks "Satisfied?". This starts an
awkward exchange about being satisfied. Angel ask if she had plans for her
birthday and she said an older handsome man is taking her out for a quiet
evening. She then lets him know its her father. Later at the library she
jokes with Giles about a piece of crystal he is showing her. Here we learn
Faith is out of town playing wild child and Giles says she is even worse
than Buffy when it comes to training. Buffy says she hates being the good
one and goes out patrolling. She's fighting a vamp and all of a sudden gets
dizzy. The vamp starts kicking her butt and is on top of her and about to
stab her with her own stake.
She headbutts the vamp crawls to the stake and grabs it as the vamp pounces
on her and impales himself. She is telling Giles about this the next day
while practicing knifethrowing ( and missing the target badly). He seems
unconcerned and tells her maybe she is just ill. Later she is telling the
gang about her dad taking her to an icecapade show and how she loves this
girly stuff. That evening she finds out her dad can't make it and is very
depressed.
We next see some men bricking up a room in an old boarding house. The head
watcher is there along with some trainees preparing a room to lock the
slayer in and test her. Later Buffy is training with Giles again with the
crystals and she is trying to get him to take her to the ice show but he is
more intent on getting her to recognize the crystals. He places a large
blue crystal in front of her gets her to stare intensely into it and she
goes into a trance. Giles then injects her with some kind of fluid and
awakens her shortly afterwards.
The next day at school Willow and Buffy hear Cordy arguing with a guy she
stood up at the Bronze the night before. Buffy goes to stop him and he
brushes her aside with no problem. Cordy starts hitting the guy and he
leaves. Buffy is more frantic now as she talks to Giles about losing her
strength. She says she feels she is not the slayer and asks Giles for help.
He says he will look into it. Later Giles is talking to the head watcher
Mr. Tarvers. He is talking about the fact that it is rare that a slayer
reaches 18 and this test is a time honored tradition. Giles is trying to
talk him out of doing this test to Buffy. He doesn't give in to Giles'
demands. After Giles leaves we here growling and the trainees open a locked
crate with a vamp in a straight jacket. They give this vamp some pills and
water. It stops making noises and they lock the crate.
At the library the gang is helping Buffy try to find out what is wrong with
her. Giles comes in and Buffy asks if he found out anything. Again he says
he doesn't have an answer. Back at the test area the vamp is groaning
again and one of the two trainees goes to give it the pills. Unknown to
the trainee the vamp has loosened an arm of the straight jacket and grabs
him while he is trying to give it its pills.
We cut to a scene with Buffy and Angel. He gives her a book called "Always
" . He says she seemed happier when she got the Judges arm in a box. She is
lamenting losing her powers and feels he would not love her if she wasn't
the slayer and a normal girl. She says she was more like Cordy as a normal
girl. In a very touching moment Angel tells her he saw her before she was
called to be the slayer and that he loved her since then. They hug.
The crated vamp waits for the man he bit to awaken. He is now a vamp(to my
surprise). He says I thought I had drained you too much. The new vamp
releases the other and they call the second trainee in to feed on him.
Giles enters the building looking for the trainees and the head watcher. He
feels blood on a railing and breaks off a piece of wood for a stake. Giles
then finds the grisly scene of the second trainee and runs out of the place
looking for help. The vamps are on the loose and looking for the slayer.
Buffy is walking home and asking herself why she didn't ask Angel to walk
her home. Some men ask her for a lap dance. She ignores them and walks
right into the vamp that was in the crate. She fights him off but he grabs
her coat. The second vamp follows her. She barely gets away as no one
would stop to help her. Giles pulls up in his car and they escape the
second vamp. Back at the library, Giles tells Buffy what he and the Council
has been doing to her. He was hypnotizing her with the crystals and
injecting her with a compound that stripped her of her powers and she was to
be tested by fighting a vamp named Zachary Kralich(sp.?)without her powers.
The effects were temporary and she would be fine in a few days. She is
stunned that Giles would do this to her. He tries to comfort her and she
backs away. Cordy walks into the library looking for a book as Buffy says
to Giles, I don't know you. It isn't safe for her to be walking at night.
Cordy takes her home.
Meanwhile back at Buffy's house, Joyce hears a sound at the door and walks
outside and sees Buffy's coat. The vamp has it over him and kidnaps Joyce.
Buffy gets home and fins a Polaroid of Joyce tied up and the note, COME.
She packs her vamp slaying stuff and goes to save her mom. Meanwhile
Kralich tells Joyce he wants to change Buffy into a vampire and the first
thing she sees when she awakens will be Joyce and will feed on her. It is
clear this is not a typical Buffyverse vampire. But no more explanation
about him is given.
The head watcher and Giles are talking at the library. Giles tells him that
he told Buffy about what is happening. Tarvers tells him the game is afoot
and that as he was watching the boarding house Buffy was heading into it to
save her mom. Giles heads out to help.
Buffy enters a very dark room with crossbow in hand. the first vamp comes
for her and she misses with the crossbow . He attacks and she runs and
pushes a bookcase over on the vamp. As she is crawling over the bookcase
the vamp grabs her leg and she grabs a poker for a nearby fireplace and
beats it to unconsciousness. She continues her search for her mom in
another very dark room. Kralich jumps out of the darkness and grabs her and
knocks all of her vamp fighting tools away. She pulls out a cross and
Kralich backs off. He then grabs her hand and the cross and places it on
his body and acts like it feels good. She breaks free and runs away again.
She runs into and locks herself into the room where the dead second trainee
is. She is frantically looking for a weapon to fight with as the door is
being pounded on. The pounding stops. She opens the door and runs out and
up some stairs. Kralich grabs her legs and trips her she kicks him off and
starts stabbing at him with a piece of broken wood. She continues up the
steps and locks herself in another room filled with pictures of Joyce.
Kralich starts breaking in. She goes out of a back door . Some how Kralich
is in from of her and grabs her. He is about to bite her and says, "Don't
worry I won't take it all". Things are looking very grim for the powerless
slayer. Kralich then all of a sudden starts groaning and grabbing his head.
He starts searching himself for his pills. Buffy tries to run again and he
slams her into a wall. He grabs the bottle form a pocket. The stunned
Buffy sees this and snatches it from his hands and jumps down what looks
like a laundry chute. He is to big to follow her down. She slides all the
way down and finds Joyce tied to a chair. She can't loosen the ropes.
Kralich Smashes through the door to the room throws Buffy against the wall
and grabs the pills out of her hand. He takes some and drinks a glass of
water to wash it down. He turns his attention to the slayer. He says she
doesn't understand her place in all of this. She is standing smugly in the
corner of the room. He starts to feel strange. " What did you do... my
pills" as the slayer pulls a vile marked holy water from her pocket and says
"If I were at full slayer power I'd be punning right now". Kralich turns to
dust and Buffy starts to untie mom. At this time the second vamp attacks.
Just at this time Giles surprises the vamp, hits it a few times and stakes
it.
Tarvers is congratulating Buffy on passing the test back at the library.
She is very upset. She tells him he had better be out of town when he
abilities return. Giles is listening to this as Tarvers says we are
fighting a war. Giles interjects and says we are waging a war. Buffy is
fighting it. Tarvers then says that Giles has become too close to his
slayer. Like a father to a daughter. Giles is fired as watcher and is
warned not to interfere with the new watcher who will be assigned later.
Tarvers congratulates Buffy again and her only reply is "Bite me". The
scene ends with Buffy trying to tend to her wounds. Giles walks over to
help her and she lets him tenderly address her injured head.
Back at Buffs house the next day the gang and her mom are talking about her
ordeal. They are making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Buffy can't
open the peanut butter jar. Xander says let a big strong man do that for
you. He can't open it either.

I am soo thrilled at the writing of this show. Keep up the good work. This
could be the best show ever on TV in my opinion.
