Synopsis of Doppelgangland

Anyanka ("Anya" to the rest of the world) approaches a demon named D'Hoffryn to enlist his help in creating a temporal fold which will help her retrieve her powercenter - the necklace which was destroyed back in Episode 43: "The Wish." He refuses.

Meanwhile, Willow is floating pencils (pretty neat) while Buffy prepares for an official Slayer evaluation which will be administered by Wesley. Principal Snider calls Willow into her office to order her to tutor Percy West, Sunnydale High's star basketball player, in History, which he is apparently flunking. She and Buffy then go to the Library. As Willow begins her attempts to break into the Mayor's computer, Faith walks in, back from her round of the physical part of the Slayer evaluation with Wesley. Faith makes both chit chat with Willow and a mental note to tell the mayor about this (which she does later because she's a bad slayer!!! But with a really phat pad, complete with Nintendo!).

Back at school, Willow greets Oz and his band upon their return from an out-of-town gig, disappointed that he hadn't invited her. Silly Willow, he didn't think you would have wanted to miss a school day! Willow then runs into Percy and tries to make a study plan for him in preparation for his History paper. He, however, is not having any of it and suggests that she will have to write it herself. Willow then wigs out when Buffy calls her "reliable" and stalks off in a huff. In the middle of this huff, she runs into Anya who tells her that she needs some help… some withcrafty help to retrieve the necklace, which Anya is now claiming is a family heirloom. Jazzed by the thought of working her voodoo, Willow agrees to help Anya with the spell. In the middle of the spell, however, Willow has visions of a whack alternate universe in which Buffy had never come to Sunnydale and breaks off the spell in the middle. Something then goes wrong and instead of bringing the necklace back, the temporal fold hoists the evil vampire Willow into the real world, right before she would have been staked by Oz (check out Episode 43 for a full recap). Anya searches desperately for the necklace and Willow leaves.

In the meantime, evil Willow wakes up somewhere in the real Sunnydale, confused by this relatively nice new world around her. She heads for the Bronze (because they all seem to always head for the Bronze). There she runs into Percy West, who, not knowing when to quit, gets thrown by evil Willow over the pool table for being the snide l'il bastard that he is. Before she manages to strangle him, however, Xander pulls him away, not noticing yet that this is evil Willow, not good Willow. She, however, thinks he is evil Xander from her reality and pulls him into her arms. Not so fast, evil Willow! She realizes her mistake soon enough. Buffy arrives and is flabbergasted at what she sees. Willow turns to leave and Buffy tries to stop her. Willow whips back, full-on vampire, and then takes off, leaving Buffy and Xander aghast. Outside the Bronze, she runs into a few of the Mayor's henchmen. After a little torture (she's sweet…yet vicious...), she convinces them to be her henchmen and help "restore" Sunnydale to what she once knew.

As Xander and Buffy tell Giles of Willow's unfortunate transformation, real Willow returns, provoking many confused yet happy utterances and hugs from the trio. While they fill real Willow in on evil Willow's doings, Angel goes to the Bronze (What did I tell you? Everyone goes to the Bronze!) in search of Buffy. While he talks to Oz, evil Willow and her henchmen enter and proceed to kill one of the unlucky young ladies present. Oz is understandably confused. Anya walks in and tells evil Willow that real Willow is the only one who can help return her to her old Sunnydale. At this point, Angel has made it back to the library to tell the gang about Willow's "demise." He does not, however, see Willow standing in the corner. Now everyone is properly confused. They all head back to the Bronze to find evil Willow but real Willow says she'll catch up after she gets that tranquilizer gun they keep under the desk at the library. Before she can get it, evil Willow has snuck in to confront her good twin. They talk, they tussle, good Willow breaks out a cross and then gets herself thrown over the counter. She reaches the tranquilizer gun and shoots a dart at evil Willow. Buffy and the rest come back to the library and lock up evil Willow in the cage. Buffy then hatches a plan to wipe out the vampires at the Bronze.

Good Willow, disguised as evil Willow, makes her way to the Bronze with the rest of the gang. The plan is for her to go into the Bronze disguised as evil Willow and to get the henchmen to walk out one by one and get stakes by the gang waiting outside. Meanwhile, Cordelia enters the library and finds evil Willow locked up in the cage (of course dressed up as good Willow). Evil Willow tries to get Cordy to open the cage Cordy instead takes this as a chance to have a woman-to-woman discussion about real Willow's secret affair with Xander. Blah blah blah ramble ramble ramble, Cordy unlocks the cage. Evil Willow chases her around the school, but then Cordy is saved by Wesley. Evil Willow leaves.

Back at the Bronze, Anya and the lead henchman have figured out that it is actually good Willow and prepare to attack her. She screams (the signal for the others to storm in) and the others storm in. In the middle of the fight, evil Willow pins good Willow on the stage. Buffy is about to stake evil Willow through the heart with a pool cue but good Willow makes her stop. When the Bronze clears out, Giles leads the gang in the spell, creating another temporal fold to send evil Willow back to the alternate Sunnydale. As soon as Evil Willow returns to alternate Sunnydale, however, she is instantly staked by Oz. C'est la vie.

The next day, Willow talks to Buffy about living up to her good girl reputation and tells Buffy that she doesn't want to go out that night. When Percy appears with his completed History paper (and an apple, you know, for the teacher?), however, she changes her mind.
