Synopsis of Enemies
Written by Bone
The story starts out with Buffy and Angel coming from a movie, "le Banquet D'Amelia." From their conversation afterwards it was clear that this movie was a bit more erotic than either of them thought it would be. She tells him she doesn't like to get him all worked up knowing they can't do anything about it. He says he can handle it and to prove this he passionately kisses her. They continue lip locking until Faith interrupts them and she and Buffy go of patrolling. Faith gigs Buffy about being in control around Angel. Buffy's about to tell Faith to mind her own business when she sees a demon and tells Faith to duck. Buffy punches the demon and they both pin it against a crypt. The demon starts telling them he was looking for them and wanted to see the some ancient books on the ascension. He wants $5k to get out of town and wants to meet them the next day. Buffy wants the books. Faith wants to kill it. They let it go.
Faith tells the mayor about the demon the next day. She 's afraid that Buffy and the gang will get the books. He comments about his hair (first sexual overtones from the mayor about her). The mayor then pours her a glass of milk and tells her to think positive. The mayor tells her to find it and kill it before Buffy gets the books.
Back at the library Wesley, Giles and the gang are talking about the demon that wants money. Wesley can't understand this. Giles sarcastically says, "Whatever happened to the still beating heart of a virgin. No one has any standards anymore." They are all thinking about what the ascension when Willow chimes in she saw something about in the Marischott (sp.?) texts. Giles asks how did she know this and she admits that she has been reading the books he tries to keep hidden from her because he thinks she is not ready for such powerful magics. Xander comments that there was a winner (Willow) and two losers (the watchers). He also wants to know if there are pictures of wood nymphs in the book. Giles found that the town of Sharpsville disappeared after the last ascension in the 1600s.
Cordy walks in and asks Wesley for help in English since he's English. She says she studies best in a restaurant around 8. Wesley is somewhat taken aback as Xander calls it a flimsy excuse for a date. Wesley comes down to earth and tells Buffy to find the demon first and get the books without paying for them.
The demon is hurriedly packing when Faith kicks the door in. She asks for the books and smacks the demon when it doesn't tell her. He relents and shows her the books. She stabs it. Faith starts to gather the books when the demon grabs her leg. She stabs it repeatedly until it is dead.
She goes to the mansion to see Angel. She is distraught because she has killed again but this time she doesn't like it. She shows him the blood on her hands from killing the demon. She doesn't tell him why she killed it. He says she needs help and that he would be there for her. She hugs him and then tries to kiss him. He says he can't be there for her in that way. She is about to leave when she asks him if things might be different if Buffy weren't in the picture. He says they will never know. She kisses him on the cheek and Buffy sees this as she is coming to see him. Buffy leaves before anyone sees her.
Faith is talking to the mayor about Angel not giving in to her because he is in love with Buffy. The mayor says there is more than one way to skin a cat and he knows this to be factually true. He says so what if Faith couldn't give him a moment of true happiness. Faith says she was hoping for a weekend. He then says that if he can't take Angel's soul by giving him happiness then he will have to do it in the most painful way imaginable.
Wesley and Giles are discussing the ascension when Giles suggests calling the council. Wesley says he hasn't told the council that he is allowing Giles to work with them. Buffy walks in looking sad. Wesley suggests again that she and Faith go find this demon. Buffy wants to do this by herself. Wesley feels it will take the two of them to find this demon because it has good reasons to hide if the books are as important as he says they are. Xander walks in and says he has the demon's address. He bribed Willie the snitch with $28. He wants to be reimbursed. Giles asks for a receipt and he doesn't have one. Faith walks in a bit later and asks what's up and touches Buffy on the arm. Buffy politely pulls away and they go to the address. Xander is the only one of the three guys who notices this.
They arrive at the room of the demon. Buffy asks where was Faith the night before. She says she was out patrolling. Faith finds the light switch. The find the mutilated body of the demon. Faith says they got books. Buffy gives her a look. (I think it was at this time Buffy realized something was up. How did she know whoever killed the demon got the books?). They leave with Buffy thinking very deeply.
The mayor has someone in his office. He offers him a mint. Wilkins asks if he can rob Angel of his soul. He says he can and that the mayor risk great danger in calling him.
Buffy and Willow are talking the next day and she tells her about seeing Faith and Angel together. Willow says Angel would never do that but that Faith is the "Do That" girl. She tells Buffy to go talk to Angel about this and sends her off.
Cut to the next scene at the mansion. Faith has come to see Angel. She has come to apologize for being so forward the night before. He forgives her. She calls him a chump and throws a liquid on him. The guy with the mayor is there. He is chanting and a mystical light show appears around Angel. He seems in pain. When the lights move away he falls to the ground. He jumps up as Angelus. Faith kisses him and he strikes her and kicks her while she is on the ground. Faith is trying to tell him why she removed his soul. She finally gets on top of him and has a stake. He asks her to wriggle a little more. She says she wants to connect him with the real power in town. He agrees and they start kissing madly.
The gang is back at the library trying to figure their next move. Cory says Wesley has a great voice and that he should be doing books on tape. Xander reminds her to stay on topic. Giles suggest that Buffy break into the mayor's office to look for more info. Since they were at a dead end with the mayor's files (willow found nothing when she finally got in) Oz suggests they look in the town's Hall of Records to find out what they can about the Mayor. Giles sends the to the hall. Cordy wants to be in Wesley's group. Xander goes off to talk to his sources.
Faith has brought Angelus to meet the mayor. She asks to keep him. The mayor starts talking if he had any problems with the transition as Angelus picks up his letter opener. He asks Angelus why was he admiring his letter opener. He says he was thinking of stabbing him through the heart with the letter opener. The mayor says go ahead. Angelus throws the opener right for the heart and the mayor places his hand in the way. The opener sticks in his hand. He pulls it out and wipes it off. And tells Angelus he cannot be killed. Angelus says he can take care of the slayer for the mayor. They mayor says don't do it to quickly because another slayer will be activated and they aren't all going to be like Faith. As Angelus and Faith go off to torture Buffy, The mayor tells him to have her home by 11:00. He sighs and says that they grow up so fast.
Xander sees Faith and Angelus and goes to tell them where the rest of the gang is. Before he can get it out Angelus knocks him out cold.
They go to Buffy's house and Angelus comments Joyce about her hair. They go up to Buffy's room and tell her they have found the books and that they are at the mansion. Angelus offers to carry Buffy's bag of weapons. Back at the mansion, Buffy realizes something is wrong when Angel calls her Buff. He vamps and says he never got to thank her for sending him to hell. He thought of a card, a fruit basket and evisceration. Buffy tells faith they have to leave. Faith says she likes it there. Angelus knocks her out with one hit (How stupid is Faith. One hit)
The gang is in research mode at the hall of records and Oz fins an old picture of the mayor of Sunnydale. It is the same as the mayor of Sunnydale now. Xander walks in and tells them that Angel has turned and Faith is with him. Wesley wants to go to Giles for help and Xander wants to go to the mansion to save Buffy.
Buffy wakes up chained to a wall. She asks Faith why is she doing this. She talks about wanting a dog as a child and her drunken mother not getting her one. She wanted something to love. She kisses Angelus. And she wanted toys as she shows the torture tools. Buffy tells Faith that Angelus will turn on her as soon as he is done with her. Angelus agrees. Faith says that they will have to keep her alive then. Faith is jealous that no matter how hard she tries Buffy gets all the credit. She tells Buffy that Buffy thinks she is better than she is. Buffy agrees. Faith says who has Angel. Buffy says, "How did you get him? Magic. Because in the real world Angel would never touch you and we both know it."
Faith strikes the chained slayer. Buffy says that Faith had to tie her up to beat her. Then Buffy says there is a word for people like her. LOSER. Faith almost stabs Buffy with a torture tool and says she knows Buffy wants to anger her into killing her but that her death will come slowly. Buffy says she will stop the ascension. Faith goes into a rant about how the mayor has the town wire for the demons. Her friends will become kibbles and bits. Buffy says to Faith that she didn't know she had so much rage in her. She says she is the worlds' best actor. Angel says, "Second best." Stunned, Faith realizes she has been duped. As she frees herself from the chains she has one word for Faith, Psyche!
The Scooby gang breaks in and Faith tosses Angle towards them. She and Buffy start a knock down drag out fight better than the one last night. Wesley is holding Angel at bay with a cross, as they don't know of the plan. Buffy and Faith simultaneously grab torture tools and hold them at each other 's neck. Faith asks, "What are you going to do? Kill me, become me. You're not ready for that yet." Faith kisses her on the forehead and runs off. Buffy lets her go (like in Innocence).
The demon sorcerer who cast the bogus spell on Angel is in the library talking to Giles. He came to Giles after speaking to the mayor because he owed Giles a debt. He has repaid the debt and asks Giles to not call upon him again. He backs up and vanishes. The gang asks what favor that Giles did for this creature. He says he introduced him to his wife.
Wesley is upset that Giles pit slayer against slayer without telling him. He says he is telling the Council and Giles agrees because they have a rouge slayer. Willow comments that at least Angel really didn't change and Xander was still upset because "he broke my face in a good way". Buffy tells him that Angel was only acting.
Faith is quite bummed that the gang fooled her. The mayor is kind of chipper as he tells faith that after graduation day there won't be enough of that in crowd of people she used to hang with to fill a pothole. Faith is still upset. The mayor says he has two words for her: Miniature golf. She smiles.
Buffy goes to see Angel and tells him she needs a break from him. He says he understands and asks if she is still his girl. She turns and says, "Always."
THE END
Although I liked this episode, I could tell what was going to happen too easily because of all of the spoilers floating around the last two weeks.
