Synopsis of Primeval

Written by TK

Buffy, having had a bad argument with her friends, goes to find Riley in the abandoned high school where he's been staying. However, Adam has activated Riley's chip in his chest that Maggie Walsh put there and Riley is summoned to Adam's hide-out cave. It turns out that due to this chip, Adam has complete control over Riley. Riley can talk back, and tell Adam how horrible he is, but when Adam says sit Riley sits. Spike comes running in crowing about how he split up the Scooby gang by making them fight, and says that now Adam has to keep up his end of the bargain and take the chip out of his head. Adam says he'll take Spike's chip out when he has Buffy right where he wants her... in the Initiative during the final battle. Spike says that Willow will give Buffy the necessary info from those disks and Buffy will show up where she's supposed to. Adam asks Spike how Willow is going to give Buffy the info if they're not talking to each other anymore. Spike realizes he messed up and leaves.

Xander is depressed about what was said during the Scooby fight. Anya tries to cheer him up as only Anya can, but what was said hit a little too close to home and Xander is actually considering joining the Army until Anya reminds him that the Army would make him wake up really early.

Adam takes Riley through the secret tunnel from his cave lair to a secret lab in the Initiative. There Riley is horrified to see the reanimated corpses of Maggie Walsh, her assistant, and his friend Forrest. Walsh and her assistant are really just worker zombies, but Forrest has been turned into a monster much like Adam himself. Adam reveals to Riley that the whole project is to make a super race of demon-humans. Forrest claims to be happy with his new form, and is glad that he's gotten rid of his weak human emotions.

Meanwhile, Buffy is searching the caves for Adam and runs into Spike. Spike pretends to be surprised that the caves are Adam's lair, and then casually asks Buffy if she got any info off those disks. Buffy says Willow has them. Spike says she should talk to Willow... just because they had a fight is no reason to stop talking. Buffy starts to ask Spike how he know that they had a fight, but then decides to just keep her mouth shut.

Willow is with Tara working on decrypting the disks. She's decided to try a whole new algorithm that she's really excited about, but before she can even input the code the disks magically decode themselves.

Giles, Willow, Xander, and Buffy meet up on campus the next day. Buffy asks them all who put the ideas into their head that started their big fight. They all realize they've been played by Spike. Xander thinks that Spike was just having some fun, but Buffy thinks that Spike is working with Adam and was purposely trying to break them up to make them weaker. When Willow tells the gang how the disks decoded themselves and the fact that info about the final battle at the Initiative is on them, Buffy again suspects that all of this was carefully planned by Adam. She realizes that Adam wants her to show up at that final battle so that she can add to the carnage. Adam has been telling demons to let themselves be caught by the Initiative, so there are more demons in captivity there than ever. Then, Adam sets them all free and all the soldier boys have to fight all the demons. Big mess.

The Scooby gang knows that Adam's power source is a thing of uranium located near his spine, but they don't know how to get at it. They think about spells, brute force, all kinds of things, and then realize that the best way is probably a combination of all of their talents. They pack up a bag full of magic toys and head off to break into the Initiative. While breaking in, Willow and Buffy talk about how they sort of drifted apart this year, and how much they miss their close friendship. They bring Xander into their group hug. They successfully break into the Initiative, but are greeted by a bunch of soldiers with guns.

Spike goes back to Adam saying that he's finally done good, Buffy is talking to Willow again, and Adam should take the chip out of his head. Adam is watching the Initiative on his monitors, and sees Buffy and the gang walking down the hall. Spike points at the monitors and says that Buffy is now exactly where Adam wants her. Then the monitors show that Buffy and the gang are being escorted by a bunch of Initiative soldiers, and Adam is not pleased that they are not alone. He says that Spike has failed him again, and Spike tries to run, but Adam sics Forrest-monster on him. Spike burns Forrest-monster with his cigarette and makes a run for it.

Buffy and the gang are being held as prisoners by the Initiative. The colonel in charge says that they can't just go breaking into government facilities anytime they want to. Buffy tries to convince him that Adam has a secret lab in the Initiative and that all hell is about to break loose, but the colonel can't believe than anything could possibly be going on in the Initiative without him knowing about it. Just then, the power goes off and all the locks in the whole facility (except those of the exits) come unlocked. All the demons are free. The colonel goes running out with his soldiers to battle, and Willow takes the opportunity to scan the blueprints of the Initiative on their own computer and find the secret lab. It turns out it's right behind the original 314 lab where Adam was built.

By this time, the battle is in full swing, and the main room of the Initiative is all blood and gore. Spike is out in the melee, happily beating up any demon that comes his way. Buffy and the gang muscle their way through the disaster, and finally make it to the relative peace of the original 314 lab. Buffy heads into the secret lab through a wall panel, while the other three set up a circle with candles and start an incantation that includes tarot cards.

Inside the secret lab, Buffy spots Riley and runs to him. He's sitting in a chair not moving and doesn't speak to her, but looks at her desperately. He motions with his eyes behind her, and she is horrified to see the reanimated corpses. Then Adam walks in. Buffy asks why Riley won't talk to her, and Adam says he isn't able to. Adam sics Forrest-monster on Buffy, and a tough fight ensues. (The rest of the Scooby gang is still chanting in the next room.) Buffy is having a really hard time with Forrest-monster, and finally, he's got her down on one of the examining tables with the reanimated corpses helping him hold her down. However, during the fight, Riley has been working hard to get control of his right hand. His right hand grabs a piece of broken glass and cuts open his own chest. He goes rooting around in there and finally, triumphantly, pulls out the chip. Just when it looks like all is lost, Riley joins the fight, quickly disabling the reanimated corpses, and then taking over the fight with Forrest-monster so that Buffy can go after Adam.

Buffy finds Adam in the room off the lab which is basically a control room. She tries her usual tactic of just attacking him, and he easily rebuffs her. He brings out his spiky arm thing, and she breaks it off, waving it in his face. He grins and says that okay, he has another one. However, instead of a spike coming out of his other arm, it entirely metamorphosizes into a machine gun (transformers, more than meets the eye). He says he's upgraded, and begins shooting. Buffy runs for one of the computer consoles and jumps behind it.

Riley is no match for Forrest-monster, and he gets thrown about quite a bit. At one, Riley gets kicked into a bunch of metal gas canisters, and picks one up and thrashes Forrest-monster with it. Forrest-monster finally gets the canister out of Riley's hands, and then Riley quickly runs away, hiding behind an overturned examination table. Forrest-monster tries to figure out what Riley is doing, and then looks at the canister in his hands. He has just enough time to read "Flammable" before it explodes into a fireball.

Whatever it was that the Scooby gang was chanting about has started to work. Suddenly, Buffy is infused with power, and the computer console she was hiding behind explodes. Buffy stands up, eyes yellow and spooky, and begins chanting in Sumarian. Adam tries to machine gun her, but the bullets stop right in front of her. He launches a missile at her, but she calmly puts her hand up and the missle turns into doves that fly away. She waves her hand again and his machine gun arm goes back to its original form (transformers, more than meets the eye). She engages him in battle again, and suddenly she is anticipating all his moves, ducking before he hits, and whacking the crap out of him. He is confused. She says, "You will never know the source of our power," and her voice sounds like four voices in unison. However, Buffy knows the source of Adam's power, and she reaches straight into his gut and pulls out the uranium power source. Riley comes in and can't believe his eyes. Buffy holds the uranium gently in the palm of her hand, then it floats up into the air and disappears in a blink. Buffy collapses into Riley's arms.

The Scoobies, back in the original 314 lab, come out of their trance just as a demon comes bursting in. Luckily, Spike comes bursting in after it and kicks its ass. They recognize that Spike did that to make amends since he realized that he made a deal with the losing team. Buffy and Riley come through the wall panel, and they all help the rest of the surviving Initiative soldiers escape the disaster.

A man is reading a document to a committee. The Initiative is a failed experiment. The power of the underworld cannot and should not be harnessed. Burn down and fill up the Initiative and salt the earth.
